Sixth Grade
Rules, Procedures and
Consequences Handbook
Introduction
Welcome to the 6th grade at Central Elementary. The purpose of this handbook is to
educate students and their parents/guardians of the requirements for 6th grade. Please
review this Handbook with your student. Then sign and return the back page to your
student’s homeroom teacher. This Handbook should be kept at home for future reference,
if necessary.
Morning procedures
Students will begin their day in homeroom. The first morning bell rings at 8:40 a.m. to
release students to their classes. Students are counted tardy after 8:55 a.m.
1. Please enter the room quietly and unpack your things.
2. Move your attendance stick.
3. Sharpen pencils and deliver any notes/messages to your homeroom teacher.
4. Prepare for Rotations. You need to take ALL materials with you! (NO EXCEPTIONS!)
5. Absolutely NO TALKING during morning or afternoon announcements.
6. Morning Procedure time is always a quiet time!
Hallway Procedures
1. Walk quietly with your hands to your side.
2. Keep your feet on the second tile; keep your hands to yourself.
3. Do not talk to your neighbor or others that are passing.
4. Do not touch the wall or jump to touch objects above your head.
Procedures for Entering Classrooms/Rotation Expectations
Each student will rotate through three teachers daily. All required material for the day
will travel with each student. We do not expect to take teaching time for students to
return to homeroom for forgotten items. We will, however, allow for an initial first week
learning curve. Thereafter, students will receive a consequence for not being prepared
for each class.
1. Walk in quietly and be seated.
2. Immediately begin to update your planner/agenda/spiral with the day’s assignments.
3. Students are not allowed to work on assignments for other classes in another teacher’s
classroom unless specifically told that this is permitted at that time. Consequences will be
at each teacher’s discretion.
Restroom Procedures
1. We will take restroom breaks as an entire class after lunch/recess.
2. Do your business quickly and without talking.
3. Always wash your hands before returning to class.
4. Restroom breaks throughout the day will be at each teacher’s discretion.
Exiting the Classroom at the End of the Day
1. You may store your books and pencil bag in your assigned desk at the end of the day.
However, during morning procedures you must take your books and pencil bags with
you. The teachers will not be responsible for stolen items anytime during the
day.
2. Pick up all the trash around your desk and stack your chairs. Our room must be
clean!
3. Car riders and walkers should exit the room quickly and quietly when the first bell
rings and go directly to your exit door.
4. Bus riders and Day Care students will be walked to the cafeteria/gym after the second
bell.(3:30)
Late Work Policy
Class work and homework is assigned to assess current student knowledge. All assignments
are expected to be completed and returned on time. Most work is due the day after it is
assigned. We follow the Moore Public School District policy for late work. There will be
an “M” on Parent Portal until the assignment is turned in and graded.
Thursday Folder Procedures
1. Show your folder and its contents to your parents/guardians that evening and ask them
to sign it.
2. Your Thursday folder is DUE on Friday signed by your parent/guardian. Return the
folder including notes, parent signature papers, etc. to the teacher. The folder is due no
later than Tuesday of the next week.
***Progress Reports and Report Cards will follow this same procedure***
Cheating/Dishonesty policy
We do grade our own papers in class in 6th grade. This is a chance for students to cheat,
however, if a student does make the bad decision to cheat, there will be immediate
consequences in every circumstance. When grading be honest and do not copy or change
your answers.
1. All students will use a red grading pen for grading.
2. Students will be honest while grading their papers. The number of items missed and
final score will be recorded by the student at the top of the first page.
3. Any student found to be cheating in grading will be flagged by all teachers and the
teachers will double check all grading while looking at student’s work.
Reading in Class
Students are required to bring a book with them to each class. When they finish with
their assignments, they will be expected to sit quietly and read until it is time to begin the
next assignment or time to change classes. There may be consequences for not following
this procedure.
Heading Papers
On all assignments, students are required to write the following information:
1. First Name and Last Name, Number, and Date (this information should be written in
the upper right hand corner)
2. Name of Assignment and/or Page Numbers and Problem Numbers will be assigned
per subject.

Sixth graders need to learn to be responsible for their own behavior. At no time can we
allow the actions of one student to take away the educational opportunity of the other
students in the class. We as the sixth grade teachers want to work together with you as
parents/guardians so that your child may have a successful and rewarding year.
FYI
We, the sixth grade teachers, will not be responsible for any cell phones or electronics
that are stolen. Hence, the reason we require students to turn them in at the beginning of
the day.
