September 25th, 2007 Minutes
Present: Cheryl Raley, Evelyn Denson, Joanette West, Tanya Curie-Richards, Pat Nash, Amy
Burns, Scarlett Hollingsworth, Vena Patel, Ben Diel, Sherry Washington
Old Business:
Professional Staff Website is definitely in progress. Should go live shortly. A broadcast will be
sent to The Communicator when it’s completed. PS Website will be updated quarterly. If you
have suggestions or any additional information we should considered as topics or headlines for
our PS website, please contact Lesley Shroyer, Tanya Curie-Richards or Sheila Clemons.
Professional Staff Community Service Project has been chosen. The Clothing Closet.
Mecklenburg County Women’s Commission has the Clothing Closet available for their
participants who need appropriate interview attire for job interviews. They would like for our
group to provide slightly used or new items. Items needed are for males and females. Some
suggestions are: suits, dresses, pants, slacks, ties, shirts, blouses, belts, socks, and shoes. If
you are interested in donating items, please bring to Cheryl Raley, HR Department Admin.
Building #2, Central Campus or Cato Campus II Room 160 on Wednesday’s from 9:00 am – 5:00
pm. Items must be clean and on hangers if possible. If there are other PS members on the
other campuses that are willing to collect donated items please let me know.
Professional Staff members are thinking of ways we can present a warm welcome to new
professional staff members at Central Piedmont Community College. Several suggestions were
made by the members. Welcome mugs with candy, crafts, lunch or any small token of welcome
were mentioned. If you have any suggestions please email Cheryl or Lesley with your ideas.
New Business
Free College Day was discussed with the members and volunteers are needed. Free College
Day event is schedule for Saturday, November 3, 2007, from 9:00am – 3:30 pm. Participating
campuses are Central Campus and Cato Campus. If you would like to volunteer for this event
please contact Libby Vagnoni as soon as possible. It would be nice if a couple professional staff
members could support this event by volunteering.
Door Prizes are also needed. Cheryl mentioned to the members that it would be great if
Professional Staff Welfare Committee could donate one (1) door prize for the Free College Day
event. Prizes can be movie tickets, gift certificates, etc. All those interested, please contact
Cheryl Raley. If you would like to make a cash contribution, she is willing to collect the monies
and purchase the gift and deliver the gift to the Free College Day Planning Committee. Donation
deadline: October 29, 2007.
Professional Staff Contract Status was discussed. Currently when Professional Staff employees
have completed three successful years of employment they are awarded an Extendible Contract.
After years have passed and there is an opportunity to apply for another professional level
position, your conditional contract starts over again no matter how long you’ve had the Extendible
Contract. Cheryl Raley is looking into this matter to see if this process can be changed. If you are
interested in assisting her with preparing a proposal to college senate, your feedback is wanted.
Other Business
We would like to have a Professional Staff Social Event “Get Acquainted”. This can be a great
opportunity to learn about the Professional Staff Welfare Committee and how you can get
involved. Also, you get an opportunity to meet other professional colleagues. Cheryl will be
working on this event for sometime in early December.
Next Meeting:
