Brief Summary:

Pig family is going to the beach to hide from the heat; during preparing and the traveling, they wasted a lot of time on different sudden events. This is a cute book that teaches students how to count elapsed time and learn how to read the clock.

Materials needed:

The book

Handouts

Papers: To draw a clock with numbers and creative picture(s)

Crayons or markers: For drawing

Twizzlers candies

Suggested Activity:

Reading the book, with explanation-notes for each step of time adding and counting.

Handout:

Pass the handout to each student with the clock.

Show the clock to the class and identify its hour hand, minute hand, and second hand with the handout.

Explain A.M. and P.M.

Activity – Create a candy clock:

Give every student a piece of paper, and then ask them to draw a clock on the paper with numbers 1 to 12 and a dot at the center (without hour hand, minute hand, and second hand).

Each student can take 3 different colors of twizzlers. a.

Minute hand: Pick a twizzler, take ONE BITE, and then put on the paper clock. b.

Hour hand: Pick the second twizzler, take TWO BITES, and then put on the paper clock. c.

Second hand: Take the last twizzler, tear to half (vertical) to make it thin, take ONE BITE, and then put on the paper clock.

Answer the two questions on the handout with the candy clock.

Bonus questions: Whoever gets the right answers can have extra twizzler.
