Enhance Learning of Rational Numbers with Fraction Towers Harriet Diaz: harriettdiaz@earthlink.net Dr. Faye Bruun: faye.bruun@tamucc.edu Construction of Fraction Towers Materials and tools: - Cardboard tubes (one per student) Construction paper Colored markers, pens, pencils Foam board (one per student) Glue gun Scissors Slinkies (one per student) Staple gun Instructions for assembly: 1. Cut white construction paper to the height of the cardboard tube and the width to where it will wrap around the tube one time and decorate construction paper as desired. Glue white paper to cardboard tube. 2. Attach the cardboard roll to the center of the foam board with the glue gun. 3. Cut colored paper to the height of the slinky. Wrap the construction paper around the base of the tube and glue. This will mark the zero line. 4. Poke one end of the slinky into the foam base and hot glue it in place. 5.
