Title:
Math Mahjong
Purpose:
The student will develop problem solving skills while practicing basic operations involving whole
numbers.
Grade Level/TEKS Reference:
6.1 Mathematical process standards. The student uses mathematical processes to acquire and
demonstrate mathematical understanding.
(C) The student is expected to select tools, including real objects, manipulatives, paper and
pencil, and technology as appropriate, and techniques, including mental math, estimation, and
number sense as appropriate, to solve problems;
Length of time necessary for game or activity:
10 – 15 minute sessions (duration will vary depending on level of difficulty selected)

Procedure:
Read instructions on beginning screen (see summary below):
 Goal is to match tiles that represent answers that equal each other.
 Tiles must be unblocked from either the right or left side before selecting them for a match.
 Unblocked tiles will change to a pink color.
 Tiles can be unselected as well as selected by clicking on the desired tile.
 Fruit tiles match any other fruit tile.
 Flower tiles match any other flower tile.
 Goal is to match all tiles within a personal best time (timer is at the bottom of the playing area).
When ready to play select continue below the instructions, then choose layout, then press START and let
the fun begin.
* An advanced version is available to the left of the play area. Directions are exactly the same as above.
