Welcome to Department of Recreation, Parks, and
Tourism
Learn the skills needed to be employed in the dynamic multifaceted profession of recreation, parks, and
tourism from our faculty who have worked extensively and conducted research in these fields. Our
department was the first college recreation program in California and is one of the oldest in the USA, yet
is cognizant of the latest trends and innovations. The RPT program is nationally accredited and we work
closely with a wide variety of recreation, parks and tourism organizations for student internships and job
placement. RPT offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and a certificate program. There are four
primary emphasis areas:




Events, Tourism, and Commercial Recreation
Health, Wellness, and Community Recreation
Youth Services and Nonprofit Recreation
Parks, Natural Resources, and Outdoor Recreation
Together, our programs, faculty, and the San Francisco Bay Area community provide an international
"living laboratory." You can start or advance a career in RPT, increase your understanding and help bring
positive change in the contemporary world.
