Family Connections/ Portola Neighborhood Steering Committee NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION PROGRAM COORDINATOR Full-Time Position Description The Program Coordinator will work with the Portola Neighborhood Steering Committee, (a community-driven group comprised of residents, merchants and community organizations actively developing & implementing a vision for the future of San Bruno Avenue) to implement the revitalization Action Plan. The Action Plan is a working blueprint which lays out basic implementation steps to guide the community’s efforts towards accomplishing their objectives. It lists a series of activities and improvements to make San Bruno Avenue a vital commercial district with active and involved merchants. The Program Coordinator, under the leadership of Family Connections and the Portola Neighborhood Steering Committee will be responsible for coordinating meetings, volunteers, and other activities as listed below. The Portola Neighborhood is located in San Francisco’s Southeast sector, between the Bayview and Excelsior neighborhoods, at the Silver Avenue off-ramp of the 101 freeway. Family Connections is located on 2565 San Bruno Avenue. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=2565+San+Bruno+Ave,+San+Francisco,+CA&spn=0.031535,0.046151&hl=en Responsibilities include Coordinate and facilitate meetings of the Portola Neighborhood Steering Committee and ad-hoc subcommittees Coordinate selected community projects (e.g. street banner project, merchant watch, business attraction, and/or holiday activities) Outreach and recruitment of local merchants, non-profit organizations, and residents to increase participation and diversity in program activities Recruit and manage volunteers to for periodic special events that promote the commercial corridor Maintain & update building and business inventory database including merchant contacts, vacancy, cleanliness, etc. Moderate the listserv and maintain participant/stakeholder database and communication Assist the Steering Committee with fundraising efforts (i.e. grant writing and reporting) Periodic outreach on behalf of other Family Connections programs including, making program announcements and generally representing Family Connections in various neighborhood functions Desired Qualifications Leadership experience Motivated self-starter Experience working in a multi-cultural environment Experience with small businesses and/or community organizing a plus Bilingual English Cantonese or English Spanish preferred AmeriCorps Compensation: Monthly living allowance totaling $18,000 for the entire year Educational award of $4,750 after completing a year of full-time community service. Award may be used to repay higher education loans or to pay for higher education or training.
