Seventh Grade Pre-AP Language Arts Independent Reading Requirements 1. You are highly encouraged to read a variety of texts every day. 2. Much research indicates that students who do read a variety of texts every day not only score better on standardized tests, but they also become much better writers and end up earning more money than those who do not read consistently. 3. You will be required to read a minimum of three books each quarter. At least one of those three books per quarter must be nonfictional. 4. Nonfictional books must contain at least seventy-five pages, and fictional books must feature a minimum of 125 pages. If a book is very close to the page requirement, then just ask Mr. Miller to look at it. He might approve it. 5. Each quarter, you will be required to complete a plot foldable and present a book talk for at least one of the fictional books and one of the nonfictional books. Depending on time constraints, Mr. Miller might grant extra credit for those who complete additional book talks and plot foldables. 6. Additionally, you must bring your book to class each day. It will be considered your text book, and you will use it to complete various assignments.
