We will study the location of places, regions, how people interact with others and the environment, and the movement of people. The following is an outline of the topics we will address: Tools of Geography to Australia and the Pacific Tools of Geography Our Planet, Earth Climates and Ecosystems Human-Environment Interaction Economics and Geography Population and Movement Culture and Geography Government and Citizenship Tools of History Europe in Modern Times Western Europe Eastern Europe Russia West and Central Africa Southern and Eastern Africa North Africa Arabia and Iraq Israel and its neighbors Iran, Turkey, and Cyprus Central Asia and the Caucasus South Asia China and its neighbors Japan and the Koreas Southeast Asia Australia and the Pacific Textbook The textbook for this course is World Geography, published by Pearson. These are brand new textbooks. You will be assigned a textbook for the year. You will be expected to use a book cover and take exceptional care of your book. Geography Supplies Needed Blue 3 ring binder, Single subject spiral notebook, textbook, notebook dividers, Pencil/Pen, Paper, colored pencils, 1 2 pack of glue sticks, and Agenda You will be expected to bring these supplies to class every day. Late Assignments and Make-Up Work All assignments should be turned in at the beginning of the class hour (unless given specific instructions otherwise) to receive full credit. Assignments turned in the following day will receive 70% credit. Students are responsible for turning in all assignments missed due to an absence (see student handbook). Redo Any assignment or test may be redone at the individual teacher's discretion. Students who score less than 60% will be required to retake the exam AFTER the students has completed any/all reteaching assignments. Students will need to schedule the retake with the teacher. Extra Help Please do not hesitate to ask for some extra help. To ensure that I will be available, please schedule some time with me before or after school. I will make every effort to be available if the student needs help. Grading Policy Grades will be weighted and broken down into the following categories: 50% Tests/Quizzes 40% Daily Work 10% Semester Exam Extra Credit I will assign one extra credit assignment each semester. The extra credit will be given towards the end of each semester. Classroom Rules Students will be expected to follow all rules of the classroom. The general rules are as follows: Be on Time. Come to class prepared. Be responsible. Be respectful to Mr. Armstrong and each other. Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Do your best and work hard. Be free of excuses. Consequences for Breaking the Rules Consequences will be decided at the discretion of the teacher or administrator based on the nature of the circumstances. Consequences may include, but are not limited to, lunch detention, parent/teacher conference, behavior contract, or referral to office.
