Coaching Philosophy To teach life lessons through volleyball by passing on my love and passion for the game. Instilling the fundamentals, discipline, and an internal motivation towards success by developing an untiring daily work ethic that extends beyond the court. To develop a positive, respectful, and considerate attitude for each other and for those we come in contact with, so that the team may continually improve in unity towards a common goal. Congratulations you are a Westmoore Lady Jaguar, YOU are phenomenal! This means you are kind, considerate, you have great sportsmanship, you are a team player, you know your role and you are willing to do anything to make the TEAM succeed. Success is not only defined by winning games, it is the improvement you and your team make along the way. It is the lessons you learn from your teammates and your coaches; it is the friendships you make, the long bus rides, the laughter and the tears. You are successful when you have given 110% the entire time. You are successful when you physically and mentally have nothing else to give. Volleyball is a game of mistakes; the team that makes the least amount wins! It is a game where you have to mentally and physically be aware 100% of the time. Ultimately we want to win, and it takes the entire team; the passers, servers, setters, hitters, blockers, and support from your teammates, friends, and family. Being a Jaguar is a privilege, it is earned. Take pride in the fact that you wear red and black. Every time you step on that floor you are ready to work. Practice or game it doesn't matter- your mentality needs to be, “I will be better today than I was yesterday.” Rules 1. You are a STUDENT athlete. Notice that student comes first. If at any time your grade drops below a C you will have study hall during some of the practice time until your grade is back up! You cannot succeed on the court, if we do not first succeed in the classroom. You have your schedule; you know when you will be gone so get your work beforehand so you will never have to worry about make-up work. “I was at a volleyball tournament” is not an excuse that your work isn’t completed. You have a math, science, and history teacher as coaches, use us. 2. You are a young lady; you will act as a young lady with your mouth and your actions. If you wouldn't say it, write it, do it or 'take that picture' in front of your mom, dad, grandma or grandpa then don't do it. Please post all the supportive or positive things about volleyball, yourself or friends and family you want on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or any other social media sites. However, do not post rude comments, do not degrade others, do not use profanity, or leave negative comments. I will find out and there will be consequences. 3. You are to be at practice ready to go at practice time. This means fully dressed; shoes tied, knee pads on, hair tied back and all jewelry off. Also, be happy to be there, lift one another up and be supportive! My practices should be full of athletes getting better at all things: communication, the specific skill we are working on, and team camaraderie. If you are not prepared with your gear, there will be consequences. Responsibility is important, bring YOUR gear. When you miss practice, you are missing important skill development and information for upcoming games. It may affect your play time. If your behavior or sportsmanship is not conducive to practice you will be asked to leave. If you get kicked out of practice 1 time- that is your punishment; 2 times- you will miss a match; 3 times- your jersey will be on hold. 4. Game days- you will dress up on games days, this means no tennis shoes, ripped jeans or t-shirts. We want to look nice. Every girl needs to ride the bus to and from the game. I understand things come up- please give us 24 hours’ notice if you will not be riding the bus back to school. We will have warm-ups for game days. You must have yours on when we are warming up. If you do not bring your warm-up, the first consequence will be a 53-21. The second time you forget your warm-up, you will miss a game. Responsibility is important, bring YOUR gear. 5. Give it all you got! Your bodies can handle much more than your brain thinks. So, when your brain is telling you, “I can't go any more!” You have some left! Please remember, I have been where you are, I know how you are feeling. Perseverance is key! YOU CAN DO IT! It is my goal to take you and make you fabulous young ladies in life and volleyball. I want you to be wonderful human beings, and make the world a great place. Of course we all know that volleyball makes the world a great place!! We will have a 3 strikes rule. The first strike is a warning; the second strike is missing game time and running, and the third strike you will lose your jersey until you can prove you can act like a Lady Jaguar again! Like I said, it is a privilege! Let’s do WORK!
