Our goals
Keep minors (kids
under 18) safe.
Online and at
events.
Enhance members’
experience.
Facebook
Closed groups
Post time, date, location.
Pictures.
Fan pages
Recruit members.
Get community support.
IMPORTANT:
Using a Facebook
profile (personal
account) is against
Facebook’s user
policy.
Benefits of groups
Control who sees posts.
Have the ability to message members.
Similar benefits to a page.
Share photos, links, etc.
Create events.
Upload documents.
Benefits of groups, cont.
All members notified of new post.
(Unless member turns off notifications.)
Can see who has viewed a post.
Can have as many as you want.
Considerations
Admins must link your personal account.
There should be at least two admins.
Can be volunteers, 4-H’ers.
Facebook does not allow members under 13.
Invite parents to join.
Considerations, cont.
Can only add friends.
Tell members to request to join.
You must have an account to join or view a group.
Remember: have an alternate way to communicate.
Associate with Georgia, UGA, etc., so people know
they are at the right place.
If an account already exists…
Try contacting the admin.
They may be able to make you an admin.
You may be able to get them to delete it.
If an account already exists…
If you don’t know who runs the page or group:
“Like” the page/join the group, post message
directing people to official group.
If an account already exists…
May be a lost cause.
Designate your page as the “official” one.
Best strategy: have the most compelling and up
to date content.
