Addendum
Service Learning Option:
In order to give students the opportunity to observe, participate, and apply classroom learning in a unique
environment and give back to our community, CPCC is providing the option of Service Learning. Service
Learning involves organized community service addressing local needs, developing academic skills, civic
responsibility, and a commitment to the community. This experiential education aims to enhance and
enrich student learning in course material. Service Learning involves a student committing 20 hours or
more to community service, and writing a 4 to 5 page reflection essay in lieu of the final exam.
The reflection essay should contain:
 Where you went
 What you did
 What you learned that is relevant to this course and the topics we cover
 What you learned that is of benefit in your life
If you opt for Service Learning, you must meet the following deadlines:
 September 15th select agency where you wish to volunteer
 November 21st all 20 hours must be completed by this date
 December 1st
reflection essay due
No extensions will be granted on the due dates. There will be no exceptions to this rule.
