Central Piedmont Community College Foundation Wachovia Scholarship for Financial Services Careers The Wachovia Scholarship for Financial Services Careers has been established to provide scholarship assistance to deserving CPCC students interested in gaining employment in the financial services industry. The endowment was created by a gift from Wachovia to attract and retain students in the bank teller, mortgage banking and financial planning disciplines. During the the fiscal year, scholarships are awarded as follows – one Bank Teller Scholarships (not to exceed $100); two Mortgage Banking Scholarships (not to exceed $200 each); and five Certified Financial Planner Scholarships (not to exceed $1,200 each). Scholarship funds may be used to pay for tuition, fees. The funds will be disbursed directly to the college on a semester basis and will not exceed $300 on any given class. Qualifications Have earned a high school diploma or GED for Bank Teller and Mortgage Banking courses and a bachelor’s degree for Certified Financial Planner courses Demonstrate English proficiency through written application and oral interview Submit a brief statement on job/career goals and how the scholarship will benefit you (250-word maximum) Enroll in a Bank Teller, Mortgage Banking or Certified Financial Planner Course offered through the CPCC Financial Services Institute within six months of scholarship award Clean personal and professional record (no felony or misdemeanor convictions) Selection Criteria Applicants meeting the criteria above will be screened by CPCC Financial Services Institute faculty and staff. Selection and award decisions will be made by a committee, comprised of Financial Services Institute faculty, staff and Advisory Board members. All decisions are final. Scholarship recipients are not obligated to work for Wachovia and are free to accept employment at other financial institutions and organizations. Award Terms of the one-time, non-renewable award will be based on the fiscal year. Awards are paid per course, with the Sponsored Student Program approving the amount to be credited to the student business office account for related tuition, books and fees.
