AAAF CSI Camp FAQ’s
When is the camp? June 20 through June 23, 2016 and July 18-21, 2016
Who can attend? Students in grades 6-12. Recent high school graduates can also attend.
Where is it held? CPCC Merancas Campus, 11920 Verhoeff Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078
What time is the camp? The camp is from 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
What is the cost of the camp? The $325.00 cost provides professional instructors, camp T-shirt, crime scene
box with supplies, camp class photo, foot cast for each student, Academy pens and other forensic memorabilia.
What do I wear? Dress is casual. Keep in mind that students will be working with fingerprint powders and foot
cast models. The forensic academy supplies lab coats and gloves as needed.
Breaks and Lunch Students will be provided pizza on the last day of the camp. They should bring their own
lunches on Monday through Wednesday. They can also bring snacks or purchase them from our vending
machines. Lunch will be from noon to 1:00 p.m. each day. There will be regular breaks between class training
segments, normally every hour. Water will be provided and students that have dietary needs or issues should
bring this to the attention of CPCC instructors on the first check-in day of the camp. Students will not be allowed
to leave our campus without parental permission.
Emergency Information / Liability Waivers Parents will be asked to complete emergency contact information
and to provide any needed medical information on the first day of camp during check-in/registration (between
8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.)
Observation Parents or grandparents are allowed to observe certain class segments, if interested. There will
also be a special graduation/certificate ceremony on the last day of the camp when all parents/guardians are
welcome to attend.
Course Description Students attending this camp participate in exercises that include techniques from the
forensic laboratory and crime scene processing. Students process and document mock crime scenes using “real
world” techniques and equipment. They then use laboratory equipment to analyze evidence obtained from
various crime scenes. Students practice fingerprinting, casting, and molding shoe impressions, developing
fingerprints, and other types of evidence, collecting and documenting evidence, and maintaining chain of
custody of evidence. In addition, visitors from other law enforcement agencies like FBI, Secret Service, CMPD,
US Postal Inspectors, and other Forensic lab or specialist personnel may make short presentations.
