6. Reason for this curriculum action:
This curriculum action is intended to provide students the option of taking Com 145, which focuses on one-on-one
communications skills, rather than Bus/Com 130 with its focus on group presentations. One-on-one communication
skills are at least as important as group presentation skills for our graduates working in the office environment. In the
health field the one-on-one skills may even be preferred. By including Com 145 as an option we expect to provide our
students with more flexibility in scheduling their classes. This change will also reduce the time to complete the program
for students who have completed Com 145 before transfering into Business Technology. It should also be noted that
three classes now required for the Business Technology AAS degrees provide opportunities for group presentations.
These are BUSN 150, BUSN 151 and BUSN 292.
