5. General Course Objectives
SPAN 101 is an introduction to the sounds and basic structures of the Spanish language, emphasizing the acquisition of speaking, writing, reading and listening comprehension skills for communicative proficiency, and an appreciation for the essential elements of Hispanic culture

Evaluation a. Produce the sounds of Spanish and read words with acceptable pronunciation b. Reproduce simple patterns of speech based on classroom model with acceptable pronunciation c. Respond orally to familiar simple conversational models to demonstrate communicative competency at a basic level. d. Respond physically to total physical response (TPR) commands and role-plays that relate to in- class movement and behavior, and other material germane to course content. e. Read aloud familiar materials with pronunciation comprehensible to a native speaker. f. Write phrases in Spanish that demonstrate appropriate use of grammatical forms in familiar contexts. g.
