2. Course Description
Includes advanced word processing,
spreadsheet, database, integration of
applications, and creation of a web site.
Incorporates electronic presentations for
projects. Utilizes Microsoft or Corel Word
Perfect office applications. Applies electronic
presentations for projects. Prepares students
for Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS)
Core certification. Designed to support
students in bringing together all of the
elements of their learning in the Business
Technology program within a portfolio.

5. General Course Objectives
To develop proficiency beyond the basic introductory course in working with computer hardware and software applications widely used in business organizations. To provide the student
with the ability to work confidently and productively with tools such as word processing, spreadsheets, graphs, databases, presentation graphics, intranets and the internet and to apply these
tools to the solution of common business problems.

6. Student Learning Outcomes
For assessment purposes, these are linked to #7. Recommended course content.
Upon completion of this course, the student will
a) Define and explain specific terminology relating to word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation graphics, intranets, and the internet.
b) Use file system commands and utilities necessary to manage user files and folders in a
networked environment.
c) Use backup and recovery programs necessary to safeguard user data files in a networked
environment.
d) Use a word processor to produce a variety of basic business documents and simple desktop publishing documents.
e) Use a spreadsheet to analyze and present numeric information, graphs and charts and to
apply these tools to common business problems.
f) Use a database program to organize, store and retrieve business information using database forms, queries and reports.
g) Use a presentation graphics program as a tool to support and develop business communications skills and to create presentations with appropriate audio and visual components.
h) Use integration tools for sharing information between different applications such as word
processor and spreadsheet programs.
i) Use data acquisition tools such as scanners, optical character recognition, Internet searching, email and list servers to retrieve and store information for later use.
