New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 17048 version 5 Page 2 of 4 2 The following apply to the performance of all elements of this unit standard: a All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented worksite health and safety and environmental procedures (where these exceed the code) for personal, product and worksite health and safety, and must meet the obligations required under current legislation, including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, the Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments. b All work practices must meet documented worksite operating procedures. This includes the recording (by electronic or non-electronic means) of activities, events, and decisions. c All evidence of communications gathered in relation to this unit standard must be in accordance with worksite procedures for content, recipient, timing and method. 3 All activities must be completed within a timeframe agreed between candidate and assessor. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Explain fundamentals of thicknessers and overhand planers manufacturing. in wood product Performance criteria 1.1 The purpose of thicknessers and overhand planers in wood product manufacturing is described in accordance with worksite documentation. 1.2 Operating principles of thicknessers and overhand planers are described in accordance with worksite documentation. 1.3 Operating parameters and capability of thicknessers and overhand planers are explained in accordance with worksite documentation. Performance criteria 2.1 Job specifications are obtained and interpreted in accordance with order requirements and worksite documentation. 2.2 Safety equipment is obtained and worn in accordance with worksite documentation. Range hearing protection, safety footwear, eye protection. 2.3 Cutters are selected and defects rectified in accordance with order requirements and worksite documentation. 2.4 Presence of services is ensured in accordance with worksite documentation. Range 2.5 electrical power, lighting, ventilation, dust extraction fans. Materials are selected in accordance with order requirements and worksite documentation. Element 3 Prepare thicknessers and overhand planers for wood product manufacturing operations. Performance criteria 3.1 Fences, safety guards, and tooling are selected and secured in place in accordance with order requirements and worksite documentation. 3.2 Jigs and templates are selected in accordance with order requirements and worksite documentation. 3.3 Thicknessers and overhand planers are set in accordance with order requirements and worksite documentation. 3.4 The maintenance schedule for thicknessers and overhand planers is identified and followed in accordance with worksite documentation.
