Special notes 1 This unit applies to CNC machine operation in wood product manufacture and is designed to support the range of Produce components using (equipment) unit standards in the Wood Product Manufacturing Skills domain. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 22990 version 1 Page 2 of 4 2 The following apply to the performance of all elements of this unit standard: a All work practices must meet recognised codes of practice and documented worksite health and safety and environmental procedures (where these exceed the code) for personal, product, and worksite health and safety, and must meet the obligations required under current legislation, including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, the Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments. b All work practices must meet documented worksite operating procedures. This includes the recording (by electronic or non-electronic means) of activities, events, and decisions. c All evidence of communications gathered in relation to this unit standard must be in accordance with worksite procedures for content, recipient, timing, and method. 3 All activities must be completed within a timeframe agreed between candidate and the assessor. 4 Definition Worksite documentation refers to instructions to staff on policy and procedures (including the application of legislation to worksite situations) which are formally documented, and are available for reference at the worksite. Examples are standard operating procedures, specifications, manuals, and manufacturer's information. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Manage hazards associated with operating a CNC machine for wood product manufacture. Performance criteria 1.1 Hazards associated with operating a CNC machine are identified and actions to be taken to eliminate, isolate, or minimise the hazard are described in accordance with worksite documentation. 1.2 Safe work practices associated with operating a CNC machine are identified and used in accordance with worksite documentation and legislative requirements. Range practices may include but are not limited to – isolation procedures, lock-outs, emergency stops, lifting techniques, machine guarding, wearing of appropriate safety equipment. Element 2 Prepare for CNC machine operation. Performance criteria 2.1 CNC programme is checked against job specifications in accordance with worksite documentation. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 22990 version 1 Page 3 of 4 2.2 Programme processes and outputs for the job are described in accordance with worksite documentation. Range description includes but is not limited to – tools and equipment used, sequence, steps, changes to components. 2.3 Machine tools and implements are checked in accordance with worksite documentation. 2.4 Machine is referenced to prepare for the operation according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Element 3 Operate a CNC machine for wood product manufacture. Performance criteria 3.1 Machine operation conforms to health and safety regulations and job specifications. 3.2 Output of machine is monitored and adjustments are made to ensure continuity of process. 3.3 Defective components are identified and rejected in accordance with worksite documentation. 3.4 Components are produced to specification and within the time limits in accordance with worksite documentation. 3.5 The preventative maintenance and cleaning schedule for the CNC machine is carried out in accordance with worksite documentation. Element 4 Monitor and control the performance of a CNC machine for wood product manufacture. Performance criteria 4.1 Monitoring of product quality and feedback information enable process requirements, plant performance, and product quality to be maintained in accordance with worksite documentation. 4.2 Control information is entered into the CNC machine in accordance with worksite documentation. 4.3 Setting adjustments made to machine tools and implements enable production requirements to be achieved in accordance with worksite documentation. Range production requirements – product quality, volume, production rate, continuity of process. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 22990 version 1 Page 4 of 4 4.4 Product quality, volume, and production rate are maintained in accordance with worksite documentation. 4.5 Reject material is identified and dealt with in accordance with worksite documentation. 4.6 Completed components are stacked and/or packaged in accordance with worksite documentation and/or customer requirements. Please note Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
