People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare and use liquor treatment equipment to process scouring liquor, identify problems in the operation of the equipment, carry out minor maintenance and maintain records as required. Performance criteria 1.1 Liquor treatment loop is described and loop sections and components identified. 1.2 Reasons for treatment of scour liquor and recovery of wool grease are described. Range 1.3 environmental, operational, financial. Local regulations and workplace procedures relating to liquor discharges are described. Element 2 Prepare liquor recycling loop and equipment for operation. Performance criteria 2.1 Liquor transfer pumps are started in sequence specified in operating procedure. 2.2 Valves and liquor control devices are set to direct and control liquor according to requirements of installed system. Element 3 Prepare and operate separator. Performance criteria 3.1 Separator is assembled and checked prior to operation according to machinery manufacturer’s instructions. Range cleanliness of parts, oil level, vibration free, no liquor leaks. 3.2 Flows and pumps are started according to operating procedures. 3.3 Equipment is monitored and adjustments made to ensure plant is operating to workplace requirements. Range 3.4 feed, holding tank levels, liquor temperatures, pump operation. Cream flow directed to the holding tank as required by work instruction and according to workplace practice. Element 4 Close down treatment loop and separator. Performance criteria 4.1 Liquor flows are stopped according to requirements of installed equipment. 4.2 Separator is dismantled and cleaned according to operating instructions. 4.3 Separator parts are checked for wear and reporting procedures followed when wear has occurred. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
