Purpose
This unit standard is for people working in the weaving industry. People
credited with this unit standard are able to: mend woven fabric by removing
weaving faults, yarn faults and imperfections; and maintain records.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Demonstrate knowledge of fabric faults.
Range
pattern, colour, draft, lifts, sley, double picks, broken picks, missing picks,
floating weft, floating warp, snarls, loops, cut weft, cut warp, selvedge, thick
yarn, thin yarn, oil or grease, contamination, tight warp, reed marks, slack warp
ends, slack weft, slubs, over twisted yarn, undertwisted yarn, streaky dyeing,
wrong reverse, headle shaft down and other abnormalities.
Performance criteria
1.1
Fabric is inspected according to workplace procedure and faults identified.
1.2
Mending techniques are demonstrated to workplace standards.
Range
techniques used in workplace, weave structure maintained,
tension, yarns match, needle size, mending on correct side.
Element 2
Locate faults and carry out mending procedures.
Performance criteria
2.1
Marked and unmarked faults are identified.
2.2
Mending technique conforms to workplace practice for fault being mended.
2.3
Fault is mended to workplace standard.
2.4
Records are maintained according to workplace requirement.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
