People credited with this unit standard are able, for a sportsfield, to describe: the playing surface requirements; the year round maintenance; fertiliser requirements; and management of common weeds, pests, and diseases. Performance criteria 1.1 Description specifies requirements related to the laws of the game. Range 1.2 dimensions, marking. Description specifies playing performance qualities of a sportsfield. Range performance qualities may include but are not limited to – hardness, bounce, pace, smoothness, levelness, uniformity, cover. Element 2 Describe the in-season maintenance requirements of a sportsfield. Performance criteria 2.1 Description specifies in-season mowing management requirements of the sportsfield. Range 2.2 Description specifies irrigation management requirements of the sportsfield. Range 2.3 mower selection, mowing frequency, height of cut, grooming, effect on playing characteristics. rate and frequency of application, method of application. Description specifies in-season preparation and playing surface management requirements of the sportsfield. Range marking, patching and repairs, playing quality. Element 3 Describe the renovation of, and out-of-season maintenance procedures for, a sportsfield. Performance criteria 3.1 Description specifies procedures for the renovation and out-of-season maintenance of the sportsfield. Range physical treatment, thatch control, levelling, topdressing, reseeding, mowing. Performance criteria 4.1 Description specifies fertiliser requirements of a sportsfield. Range nutrient and pH requirements, seasonal fertilisation. Element 5 Describe the management of common weeds, pests, and diseases of a sportsfield. Performance criteria 5.1 Description outlines the management of common weeds, pests, and diseases of the sportsfield. Range seasonal occurrence, chemical control, integrated pest management (IPM), legislation. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
