Tallest Standing Jenga Skycrapper Competition
Build your own Skyscrapper using Jenga Blocks
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Understanding the correlation between load distribution to the foundation of the
structure and its height.

Group work and discussion.

Use of minimal amount of material in order to achieve the heighest standing structure.
MATERIALS LIST
-
Two (2) Boxes of Jenga, each with forty-eight (48) pieces
THE RULES
The objective of the competition is to build a skyscrapper which would be able to stand
on its own without tipping over. Once the skyscrapper would be able to stand freely, a
increment of loads will be applied to the structures one at a time in order to determine the
loading capacity of the structure. The load increments will be of 1kg, 2kg, 4kg, 6kg, 8kg and
10kg.
Rule #1:
Groups may consist of no more than three (3) people of which one (1) contestant may
come from another department.
Rule #2:
The area authorised to build within is either a circular or square with dimensions of
17cm radius or 30cm x 30 cm respectively.
Rule #3:

will equal 1. The time taken to build the structure will be given a factor of 0.2 out of 1. The
height of the structure will be given 0.4 out of 1. Finally the load carrying capacity will be
awarded a ratio of 0.4 out of 1. The winner will be determined based upon the overal scores
from each category.
