Performance criteria 1.1 The description outlines the consequences of seabird incidental capture to the marine ecosystem. Range 1.2 The description outlines the consequences of seabird incidental capture to the commercial fishing industry. Range 1.3 breeding pairs of seabirds, seabird populations. public expectation, consumer reaction to seafood products. The description outlines the consequences of seabird incidental capture on the economic operation of a fishing vessel. Range access to fisheries, reduction in catch, reduction of market value and acceptance, cost recovery levies. Element 2 Describe methods for the reduction of seabird incidental capture during commercial fishing operations. Performance criteria 2.1 The description outlines ways in which fishing boats can be made less attractive to seabirds in accordance with company requirements. 2.2 The description outlines those elements of the fishing operation that present risk of incidental capture of seabirds. Range 2.3 long-lining, trawling. The description outlines methods for the reduction of seabird incidental capture within a long-line fishery, and a trawl fishery. Element 3 Describe handling techniques and reporting requirements for incidental capture of seabirds on a commercial fishing vessel. Performance criteria 3.1 The description outlines safe handling techniques for releasing live seabirds in accordance with company requirements. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
