Seafood goods include seafood product (in any form) or goods associated with the production of seafood product. Storage facility may include – environs, temporary storage, containers, cold storage, dry storage, product support areas. 2 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to the: Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; and may include Food Act 1981 and/or Animal Products Act 1999. 3 This focus of this unit standard is safe work practices that relate to specific hazards in a seafood goods storage facility. Please note Unit 6213, Describe and use safe work practices in the seafood industry covers generic skills in the wider seafood industry. The theoretical and practical skill set for this unit standard is more specific than that required in unit standard 6213. Holders of unit standard 6213 would not meet the requirements for this unit standard. 4 The phrase in accordance with company requirements is implicit in all outcomes and evidence requirements in this unit standard. Evidence requirements 1.1 The description includes the personal protective equipment required when working in a seafood goods storage facility. 1.2 The description includes the hazards and the procedures for their control when working in a seafood goods storage facility. Range evidence is required for three hazards. 1.3 The description includes the action to take if an uncontrolled hazard is identified. 1.4 The description includes the procedures to follow in the event of an incident, accident and a near miss incident. Outcome 2 Carry out safe work practices in a seafood goods storage facility. Evidence requirements 2.1 Personal protective equipment is used when working in the seafood goods storage facility. 2.2 Action is taken if an uncontrolled hazard is identified. 2.3 Procedures are followed in the event of an incident, accident or a near miss incident. 2.4 Safe work practices are followed when working in the seafood goods storage facility. Range 2.5 may include but is not limited to – machinery, environment, equipment, hazardous substances, handling seafood goods; evidence is required for three safe work practices. Where hazards are identified, procedures for their control are followed.
