People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of calculating passenger fares and procedures for processing payments; and issue tickets and accept payments in a rail passenger environment. Classification Rail Transport > Rail Core Skills Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Assessment against this unit standard is to be carried out within the context of an organisation operating under a current, valid Rail Licence issued in accordance with the provisions of the Railways Act 2005. The organisation’s operating rules, codes, and instructions, referred to in this unit standard, are those the organisation has in place to meet the requirements of the Rail Licence. 2 Definition Organisational procedures refer to documents that include: worksite rules, codes, and practices; equipment operating instructions; documented quality management systems; and health and safety requirements. Rail passenger environment may include but is not limited to: onboard, platform, station, trackside. 3 Outcome 1 may be assessed against in a classroom environment. Range 1.2 Payment methods are identified and processing requirements are demonstrated in accordance with organisational procedures. payment methods may include but are not limited to – cash, eftpos, cheque, credit card, debit card. Range Outcome 2 Issue tickets and accept payments in a rail passenger environment. Evidence requirements 2.1 Tickets are selected, snipped, and handed to passengers in accordance with organisational procedures. 2.2 Payments are accepted and, if applicable, change is calculated and handed to passengers in accordance with organisational procedures. 2.3 Payments are handled and stored in accordance with organisational procedures.
