Definitions
On-farm procedures – the verbal or written instructions to staff on procedures for pig
health, welfare, and management.
Veterinary guidelines – advice received directly from veterinarians, or literature
recommended by veterinarians or providers accredited to assess against this unit
standard.
Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Check feed ingredient supplies, and identify feed quality problems.
Performance criteria
1.1
Feed ingredient supplies are checked in accordance with on-farm procedures.
1.2
Feed ingredient supplies at low levels are reported in accordance with on-farm
procedures.
1.3
Delivery docket is checked to ensure ingredients and quality match delivery
docket, details are recorded, and problems are reported in accordance with onfarm procedures.
1.4
Feed ingredient quality problems are identified and reported to the supervisor
immediately.

Element 2
Check mill and mix plant before use.
Performance criteria
2.1
Safety components are checked and put in place in accordance with
manufacturer’s specifications.
2.2
Greasing points are lubricated in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
2.3
Plant components are checked to ensure they are operational in accordance
with manufacturer’s instructions.
Range
drive belt tensions, collection trap, air bags, mill screen, hammers.
2.4
Plant is checked for presence of contamination and residues in plant and their
presence dealt with in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
2.5
Checks are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with manufacturer's
instructions.

Element 3
Mill and mix feeds.
Performance criteria
3.1
Grain is milled and measured into the mixer in accordance with the quantity
specified in the feed formulation.
3.2
Other feed ingredients and feed additives are measured and transferred to the
mixer in accordance with the quantity specified in the feed formulation,
veterinary guidelines, and on-farm procedures.
3.3
Mixer is operated and feed ingredients are mixed for the specified time in
accordance with on-farm procedures.
3.4
Mixed feed is transferred to feed silo ready for feeding in accordance with onfarm procedures.
3.5
Safety equipment and clothing are worn during milling and mixing operations in
accordance with legislative requirements, and on-farm procedures.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The
AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations
