The brief will be limited to performance text production guidelines, venue, budget; but it should allow for creative input. 2 Respect for ownership of original ideas and cultural sensitivity underpin the learning and teaching in this unit standard. 3 Definitions Performance text refers to performance material which may include written, visual, oral, or combination(s). Theatre refers to performance space which may be within traditional theatre structures or alternative venue. Problems refer to creative challenges and limitations contained in brief. Agreed production idea is an agreement regarding ideas between at least the designer and tutor/director. Make-up includes hair design including design and application of facial hair; for example, moustache, wigs. 4 Legislation Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, and its subsequent amendments. Evidence requirements 1.1 Demonstration uses vocabulary for make-up design. 1.2 Demonstration identifies and explains intended use of a range of make-up products suited to the production. 1.3 Demonstration includes explanation of possible symbolic nature of make-up to support the performance text. 1.4 Demonstration identifies and defines roles in relation to make-up design for stage production. Range director, designer, production manager, production team. Outcome 2 Develop make-up design concept for stage production. Evidence requirements 2.1 Requirements of design brief for a stage production are identified. 2.2 Make-up design issues are identified for the specific circumstances. Range 2.3 A range of design ideas is created in developing the concept. Range 2.4 simple graphic form, mock up, brief notes, evaluation of alternatives. A range of make-up design options is presented for development of design concept. Range 2.5 circumstances may include but are not limited to – text, occasion, venue, social, cultural. one presentation of – oral, written, visual. Agreed presentation ideas are developed and presented as a design concept. Evidence requirements 3.1 Final presentation drawings match requirements of original brief. 3.2 Final presentation drawings match agreed production ideas, and suit practical application. 3.3 Final presentation drawings include specific detail suited to the specific production. Range 3.4 detail to include – products and colours, inventory, quantities, costings, method of realisation of creative ideas with special practical considerations. Presentation is supported by evaluation of process and product. Range one presentation of – oral, written, visual. Outcome 4 Apply make-up for stage production. Range two contrasting characters – one following design presentation, the second involving complex make-up procedures (for example, aging, scar). Evidence requirements 4.1 Make-up application realises make-up design. 4.2 Make-up application shows basic make-up techniques suited to the products and circumstances. 4.3 Make-up application includes use of complex make-up techniques.
