They are able to apply this knowledge to the context of assessment for this unit standard (for further clarification, please refer to Unit 7927, Demonstrate knowledge of the application of the Treaty of Waitangi in the social services ).

2 Pacific Island refers primarily to the main island groups represented in New Zealand, namely Samoan, Tongan,

Cook Island, Niuean, Tokelauan, Fijian, Tuvaluan,

Solomon Islands, Kiribati.

3 Pacific Island community includes but is not limited to: a community of interest, a community of locality, a cultural community, or a kin group, who identify themselves as Pacific people.

4 Evidence is required of involvement in two networks.

5 Sources of criteria established by legislation, ethical practice, and organisational guidelines include but are not limited to: Official Information Act 1982, Privacy Act

1993, service provider codes of conduct, codes of practice issued by the Privacy Commissioner, social service codes of ethics, and organisational guidelines, protocols, staff manuals, strategic plans, kaupapa.

6 Pacific Island social service workers include but are not limited to: community workers, counsellors, social workers, youth workers, and others who deliver Pacific

Island social services, whether paid or unpaid.

7 In carrying out all elements of this unit standard, actions are documented according to enterprise standards. Enterprise standards include but are not limited to: service provider strategic plans, kaupapa, governing legislation, staff manuals, service provider protocols.

2.1 Relationships are commenced with selected Pacific Island networks according to identified needs and priorities.

2.2 The nature of the support that can be provided by the networks is identified and matched to needs and priorities.

Range: nature of the support - age, class, culture, gender, political, religious, sexual orientation, peer group, education, information, personal, professional, resources, professional supervision, cultural supervision; evidence is required of three of the range.

2.3 Contributions that can be offered to the networks are identified and matched to the needs and priorities of the network.

2.4 Communications with members of the network are made according to the cultural processes, values, beliefs, and perspectives of members of the network.

2.5 Confidentiality of communications with the network is maintained according to criteria established by legislation, ethical practice, and organisational guidelines.

2.6 Support is sought and contributions to the network are offered according to needs and priorities of the Pacific Island social service community and network.

2.7 Participation in networks is evaluated in terms of relevant criteria.

Range: relevant criteria - Pacific Island community expectations of accountability; the needs and priorities of the Pacific Island social service worker and the network; benefits and costs to the service provider, the Pacific Island social service worker, and other stakeholders.
