Fakaaue lahi – saying ‘thank you’. Fakamolemole – saying ‘please’. Ulumotua – elder. Taoga – traditional and contemporary treasures. 2 Definitions A Niuean early childhood service is a culture specific centre responsible for all aspects of the child’s development. Service may include but is not limited to – early childhood centres, home based early childhood educational programmes. Protocols are procedures and experiences which reflect traditional and cultural practices. 3 All outcomes and evidence requirements must be in accordance with any policies, procedures, standards, and requirements of the organisation involved, and with the following: Children, Young Persons, and their Families Act 1989; Education Act 1989; Human Rights Act 1993; Privacy Act 1993; Education (Early Childhood Centres) Regulations 1998; Education (Early Childhood Services) Regulations 2008; Education (Home-Based Care) Order 1992. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Describe and implement protocols of social interactions relating to young children. Range includes but is not limited to – fakaaue lahi, fakamolemole. Evidence requirements 1.1 Description specifies the situations in which the protocols should be used. Range evidence of three situations is required. 1.2 Description identifies the manner which the protocols should be carried out. 1.3 Implementation of protocols is consistent with situations and manner described. Outcome 2 Communicate with Niuean community elders (ulumotua). Evidence requirements 2.1 Description of communication is in relation to the ranking of the community ulumotua. 2.2 Communication with community ulumotua uses oratory speeches appropriate for the occasion. 2.3 Communication with community ulumotua uses oratory speeches which reflect knowledge of staff and community ulumotua. Range sitting or standing, use of language, dress code. Outcome 3 Describe Niuean code of dress, and dress in traditional Niuean clothing for occasions. Evidence requirements 3.1 Description of Niuean code of dress is in terms of the occasion. Range 3.2 traditional dress for women, traditional dress for men. Dress worn is appropriate for the gender and occasion. may include but is not limited to – funerals, welcome ceremonies, visits by special guests, Culture Day, Constitution Day. Range Outcome 4 Coordinate the preparation of cultural practices for ceremonies in a Niuean early childhood service. Range includes but is not limited to cultural practices for – Culture Day, presentation of a si’i, welcoming visitors. Evidence requirements 4.1 Coordination of preparation is in accordance with the protocols appropriate to each cultural ceremony. 4.2 Coordination of preparation is appropriate to the traditional and tagoa in relation to each cultural ceremony. Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
