People credited with this unit standard are, in a petrochemical workplace, able to: identify light lifting and rigging equipment; use light lifting and rigging equipment; and reference and use light lifting documentation. Site requirements mean the site specific documented methods for performing work activities and include health, safety, environmental, and quality management requirements. They may refer to manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Identify light lifting and rigging equipment in a petrochemical workplace. Performance criteria 1.1 Light lifting and rigging equipment is described to identify component parts. Range 1.2 gantries, chain blocks, strops and jacks, shackles, davit arms. Light lifting and rigging equipment is located and its use explained to determine workplace applications. Element 2 Use light lifting and rigging equipment in a petrochemical workplace. Performance criteria 2.1 The need to use light lifting and rigging equipment is confirmed in relation to the load. 2.2 Light lifting and rigging equipment relevant to the conditions is selected and used in accordance with site requirements. Range 2.4 Potential hazards of incorrect application and operation of light lifting equipment are explained and the steps to avoid them demonstrated in accordance with site and legislative requirements. Range 2.5 equipment certification, work permits, lifting over live plant. hazard analysis, personal injury, equipment damage, plant integrity. Any faults in light lifting and rigging equipment are identified and the steps to rectify them are explained in accordance with site requirements. Element 3 Reference and use light lifting and rigging documentation in a petrochemical workplace. Performance criteria 3.1 Documentation and standards for light lifting and rigging equipment are referenced and used as required. Range current test certificates, code of practice, standards for in-service safety inspection and testing of equipment, identification tags, labels, manufacturer's information, equipment operating manuals, safety procedures, operating procedures, maintenance procedures. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
