Element 1
Train maiden ewes for milking.
Range
before lambing, after lambing.
Performance criteria
1.1
Maiden ewes are introduced to the farm dairy in a manner that builds animal
confidence.
1.2
Maiden ewes are prepared for milking in accordance with on-farm policy.
1.3
Maiden ewes are handled quietly and firmly.
1.4
Milking is carried out smoothly without over-milking.
1.5
Regular udder care is carried out in accordance with industry guidelines.
Element 2
Milk a flock under general supervision.
Performance criteria
2.1
Flock is milked in accordance with industry standards and guidelines, and onfarm policy.
2.2
Hygiene protocols are consistently observed.
2.3
Animal health routines are carried out in accordance with on-farm policy and
industry guidelines.
Range
2.4

Describe the process of milk sampling and labelling in accordance with industry
standards and guidelines.
Element 3
Clean and maintain farm dairy equipment.
Performance criteria
3.1
Farm dairy plant and vat are cleaned in accordance with on-farm policy and
industry guidelines.
3.2
Detergents are selected and used in accordance with manufacturer's
recommendations.

3.3
Daily and periodic maintenance is carried out in accordance with on-farm policy
and manufacturer's guidelines.
3.4
Cleaning and maintenance is carried out safely, without injury or undue risk of
injury.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
