People credited with this unit standard are able to: check and repair hurdles for safety and aesthetic appeal; erect hurdles on specific sites according to race requirements as specified by supervisor; and check and repair steeplechase fences to ensure they are safe and attractive in appearance. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Check and repair hurdles for safety and aesthetic appeal. Performance criteria 1.1 Padding is securely attached and colour is tidy in appearance in accordance with race club procedures. 1.2 Woodwork on the panels is of a uniform colour and standard size in accordance with race club procedures. 1.3 Hurdles are at the height specified by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing. Element 2 Erect hurdles on specific sites according to race requirements as specified by supervisor. Performance criteria 2.1 Hurdle inner support is set up and is securely set in the ground in accordance with race club procedures. 2.2 Hurdle height is placed according to supervisor's instructions. 2.3 Panels are tied to supports using knots that can be easily undone in accordance with race club procedures. 2.4 Panel wall is erected working from the inside to the outside of the track in accordance with race club procedures. 2.5 Wings are set at an angle to the hurdle as specified by the supervisor. Range width, size, brush height, timber size, overall colour. Performance criteria 3.1 Fences are checked and repaired in accordance with race club procedures and as directed by the supervisor. 3.2 Sighter boards are suitable for the races, and repairs are carried out as specified by the supervisor. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
