Classification Fitness > Group Fitness Instruction Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Exercise techniques refer to how exercise tasks are done, including the form the body takes when doing exercises. Circuit in the context of this unit standard circuit refers to strength exercises that are completed one exercise after another. Each exercise is performed for a specified number of repetitions or for a set time before moving on to the next exercise. Exercises may or may not be equipment based. 2 Facility policy and procedure refers to the operations manual or documented normal operating procedures at a fitness facility. 3 All activities must be consistent with the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. 4 The candidate must be assessed instructing a class of at least five participants. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of the basic exercises, techniques and level options used in Circuit classes. Evidence requirements 1.1 Planning requirements for a Circuit class are described and demonstrated in accordance with the class plan. Range 1.4 Health and safety requirements are described and demonstrated in terms of a particular circuit class in accordance with facility policy and procedure. Range 1.5 minimum of three options per technique. pre-checks on equipment, wiping down machines, plan modifications to suit customer requirements. Key skills required for Circuit instruction are described and demonstrated in accordance with the class plan. Range observation, knowledge of equipment set up, multi-tasking, managing a range of people on a range of equipment at one time. Outcome 2 Instruct a Circuit class. Evidence requirements 2.1 Circuits are explained in accordance with the class plan. Range 2.2 Circuit exercise techniques are safely and effectively demonstrated in accordance with the class plan. Range 2.3 exercise techniques include – physical execution, flow of movement, tempo, breathing. Observations of individual participants and corrections of technique are described and safely and effectively in accordance with the class plan. Range 2.4 may include but is not limited to – stations, machine usage, technique, muscle group(s) used, motivation. may include but is not limited to – machine usage, safe techniques, motivational interaction. Circuit class is delivered in accordance with the class plan. Range pre-screen, warm up, cool down, exercise changes, intensities, timing, duration of phases, sequencing of exercises.
