Range: personal protective equipment may include but is not limited to respiratory equipment, masks, goggles, hearing protection, gloves, hard hats, safety boots, overalls, fire fighting equipment. element 2 Prepare the work surfaces. performance criteria 2.1 Surrounding areas and equipment are masked or protected according to worksite procedure. 2.2 Surface defects are rectified using filling materials and methods according to worksite procedure. 2.3 Surface areas are prepared in accordance with job requirements and according to worksite procedure. Range: preparation methods may include but are not limited to - chipping, wire brushing, degreasing, acid application, scraping, abrasive papering, abrasive blasting. Range: protective coatings may include but are not limited to - grease, plastic-film, solvent-based preparations, paint, rust-inhibitors; paints may include but are not limited to - primers, undercoats, lacquers, enamel, two part epoxies. performance criteria 3.1 Paint or coating types and quantities are selected, calculated and prepared according to job requirements, manufacturers’ specifications and worksite procedure. 3.2 Paint and protective coatings are applied according to manufacturers’ specifications and worksite procedure. Range: 3.3 application techniques may include but are not limited to – brushing, rolling, stenciling.
