People credited with this unit standard are able to: describe
and set up a forepart pulling and lasting machine, upper
conditioner, conditioner uppers, and last foreparts to industry
specified performance and company quality standards; and
maintain machine.

A centrally established and directed national moderation
system has been set up by Competenz.
special notes:
Specified industry performance is 55% BSI performance or
equivalent. BSI performance is the British Standards
Institute internationally recognised performance system
(BS3138) where 100% is the standard expected from a
competent fully qualified performer using the correct
methods and taking the allowed rest, working briskly, and as
though on an incentive. Other comparable rating or
performance systems such as the 60/80 system are
acceptable, with the appropriate performance adjustment.
Company safety requirements conform to the Health and
Safety in Employment Act 1992.
This unit standard includes veldt forepart lasting.

Describe and set up forepart pulling and lasting machine and associated upper
conditioning.

Purpose of forepart pulling and lasting is explained.

toe band, pincers, heel rest, post, controls, hot melt pot supply
and feed, and/or tacks;
upper conditioner – temperature control, reservoir, elements.
Selected equipment meets product specifications and work ticket requirement.

pattern fit, ease of pulling, material breakage, feather definition.
Machine parts are identified and described in terms of function and operation.

requirements and practice.

pulling and lasting machine – temperatures, dwell, pressures,
insole plate and/or post height and angle, heel rest height, vamp
depth guide, pincers, toe pad height, and/or hot melt feed, and/or
tacks;
upper conditioner – temperature.

Uppers are loaded into the upper condition according to company requirements

Selected upper is removed from conditioner and presented to forepart pulling
and lasting machine according to company requirements and practice.

Work is completed to specified industry performance standard.
2.6
Upper is pulled and lasted to company quality standards.
Range:
vamp depth, symmetry, top line, back height, tight to last, bond
secure, flat bottom, and/or tack position.
2.7
Documentation is completed to company requirements and practice.
2.8
Work practices meet company safety requirements.
