People credited with this unit standard are able to conduct sounding operations as a survey motorboat coxswain. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Conduct sounding operations as a survey motorboat coxswain. Performance criteria 1.1 A survey motorboat is prepared for survey operations in accordance with job specifications and maritime practice. Range stow and secure survey equipment, check vessel equipment. 1.2 Bar check procedure is supervised on a survey motorboat in accordance with HYSPEC. 1.3 A motorboat is steered along a series of selected sounding lines so that it remains within ‘off-line’ tolerances to ensure the achievement of job specifications in accordance with maritime practice. 1.4 Action to be taken by the coxswain in the event of grounding a survey motorboat is demonstrated in accordance with maritime practice. Range immediate action, exit, securing of craft. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
