Classification Forestry > Forestry Business Management Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Reference to industry best practice in this unit standard refers to minimum standards for forest operations as described in: Forest Industry Best Practice Guidelines published by Forest Industries Training (2000) and available from Forest Industries Training, PO Box 6216, Rotorua; and the environmental standards contained in the New Zealand Forest Industry Code of Practice published by the Logging Industry Research Organisation (LIRO) (1993) and available from LIRO, Private Bag 3020, Rotorua. The purpose of these documents is to plan, manage and carry out forestry operations in a manner which is sustainable, environmentally and socially acceptable, physically achievable, and economically viable. 2 For the purpose of this unit standard, the term certifying agency standards refers to the standards of sustainable forest management defined by national and international certifying agencies, including but not limited to: International Standards Organisation (ISO), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), as is appropriate to the particular forest, or forests, being managed. Case studies may be used as the basis for this unit standard. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Identify factors influencing tender consideration in forestry. List generated identifies issues relating to image portrayed by the tenderer, which may be evaluated as part of tender consideration. Range age and condition of plant and equipment, adherence to company rules, level of labour turnover, ability to develop solutions to resolve problems encountered. Outcome 2 Interpret tender documentation. Evidence requirements 2.1 Prescription for the work is assessed and clarification sought where aspects of the prescription are not clear. 2.2 Prescription is checked to ensure all elements of owner's requirements are covered in assessment of work to be done. Range 2.3 block detail, work or product specification, rates, production or work schedules, completion dates, special conditions applying, quality requirements. Material included in tender preparation meets legal and legislative requirements of the prescription. Range safety plans, resource consents. 2.4 On-site assessment of block provides information required to complete tender preparation where site conditions may influence tender price. 2.5 Aspects requiring negotiation are resolved prior to development of tender. Outcome 3 Apply rates and calculate tender prices for forestry operations. Evidence requirements 3.1 Evaluation of job requirements provides the basis for establishment of equipment, labour, and other resources required to complete the work. 3.2 Calculation of tender pricing uses data taken from source recognised by industry. Outcome 4 Prepare a tender for forestry work. Evidence requirements 4.1 Information required for completion of the tender is developed in accordance with the requirements of the tender documentation. 4.2 Tender price format and details are prepared in accordance with the requirements of the tender documentation. 4.3 Visual and/or oral presentation prepared in support of the tender for submission provides information in a manner, which will clarify and enhance the submission.
