Purpose
This unit standard is for people who work in the industrial textile
fabrication industry. People credited with this unit standard are
able to: identify and remove zips from existing products; and fit
zips to materials.

Definition
Company requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which

These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and
procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality
specifications, and legislative requirements.

Evidence requirements
1.1
Tools and equipment are identified and used in accordance with the
manufacturer specifications.

may include but is not limited to – shears, knives, scissors.

Type of material from which zips are to be removed is identified in accordance
with the material manufacturer specifications and company requirements.

Types and sizes of zips to be removed are identified in accordance with
manufacturer specifications and company requirements.
Range
may include but is not limited to – metal, nylon, PVC, open end,
closed end, continuous.
1.4
Zips are removed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company
requirements, and there is no damage to adjacent materials or product.
1.5
Tools and equipment are cleaned and stored in accordance with company
requirements.
1.6
Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task in accordance with
legislative requirements.

Material to which zips are to be attached is prepared in accordance with the
material manufacturer specifications and company requirements.
