excludes underwater work, and the demolition of
bridges.

This unit standard does not qualify the holder to
undertake explosive work. Any explosive work involved
in demolition must be undertaken only by a certificated
construction blaster.

must be maintained in accordance with AS/NZ
4576:1995 Guidelines for scaffolding. Available from

Carry out pre-demolition procedures.

1.1
Client is notified of demolition method and equipment in accordance with
contract requirements.
1.2
Work permit, and building consent are obtained and confirmed in accordance
with territorial and local authority, and company requirements.
1.3
The relevant authority is notified in accordance with legislative requirements.
Range:

Person nominated to control demolition tasks is confirmed and training is
arranged in accordance with contract and company requirements.

Supervision ensures that services are disconnected and glass is removed prior
to commencement of works in accordance with company requirements.

2.2
Supervision ensures that props, scaffolds, fencing, chutes, protective screens,
lighting, safety notices, and fire protection equipment comply with demolition
plan, legislation, and codes of practice.
2.3
Supervision ensures that dust and noise control measures are implemented in
accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act
1992, NZS 6803:1999, territorial and local authority, and company
requirements.
2.4
Supervision ensures that the load-bearing capacity of floors is checked before
they are used as working platforms in accordance with company requirements.
2.5
Supervision ensures that plant and equipment are utilised in compliance with
the Approved Code of Practice for Demolition, 1994 (including Appendices A
and B).
2.6
Supervision ensures that access points are controlled by stop-and-go controller
in accordance with company requirements.
2.7
Supervision ensures that health hazards related to the presence of asbestos,
lead, toxic fumes, synthetic mineral fibres, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB), and
silica are managed in accordance with legislative, and company requirements.
2.8
Supervision ensures that pitched roof trusses are removed in accordance with
the Approved Code of Practice for Demolition, 1994.
2.9
Supervision ensures that prestressed concrete structures are demolished in
accordance with the Approved Code of Practice for Demolition, 1994.

3.1
Supervision ensures that site is cleared of demolition waste throughout the
process of demolition, and that waste does not impede or endanger the works
in accordance with company requirements.

Supervision ensures that general demolition waste is transported and disposed
of in accordance with territorial and local authority, and company requirements.
3.3
Supervision ensures that a permit is obtained for any hazardous substances to
be disposed of in accordance with legislative requirements.
3.4
Supervision ensures that hazardous substances are transported and disposed
of in accordance with legislative, territorial and local authority, and company
requirements.
