People credited with this unit standard are able to: apply
knowledge of choreographic elements in a dance work; apply
structures and devices in choreographic process; discuss and
evaluate choreographic work of others; conceptualise an idea;
choreograph dance for others; demonstrate people skills within
choreographic process; and present choreographed dance.

Explanatory notes
1
Glossary of terms used in this unit standard:
Inner space refers to internal movement, rhythms and emotions.
Personal space refers to the immediate space around the body.
General space refers to the space beyond personal space.
Apply refers to using elements, structures, devices, methods and processes as part
of choreographic process.

Recording and presentation of plan, process, and product may include permanent
evidence, e.g., creative journal, including electronic, video, drawings, and may
involve oral presentations.

On-going critical reflection of the process and evaluation of the end product by the
choreographer is intended throughout this unit.

Discussion and evaluation of the choreographic work of others may be presented in
one of written, oral, visual, or combination forms. Length of presentation should be of
five to ten minutes or equivalent in recorded form.

It is intended that the demonstration of the elements within this unit standard is
displayed in an integrated manner.

Assessment of this unit must include both the process and the end product.

The performance context in which the choreographed dance is presented assumes
an open audience.

Quality of work in relation to the outcomes of this unit standard is the factor rather
than the quality of time covered. However, it is expected that the choreographic work
at this level will require the development of a dance with a minimum duration of three
minutes.

Respect for ownership of original ideas and cultural sensitivity underpins the learning
and teaching in this unit standard.

refined through an effective rehearsal process.

There is evidence that the performance communicates the physical and

The work shows evidence of use of choreographic elements, structures, and
devices relevant to the enhancement of the idea.
7.4
Personal review is recorded which displays critical evaluation of the
presentation and how it was developed.
