Explanatory notes 1 Glossary of terms used in this unit standard: Inner space refers to internal movement, rhythms and emotions. Personal space refers to the immediate space around the body. General space refers to the space beyond personal space. Apply refers to using elements, structures, devices, methods and processes as part of choreographic process. 2 Recording and presentation of plan, process, and product may include permanent evidence, e.g., creative journal, including electronic, video, drawings, and may involve oral presentations. 3 On-going critical reflection of the process and evaluation of the end product by the choreographer is intended throughout this unit. 4 Discussion and evaluation of the choreographic work of others may be presented in one of written, oral, visual, or combination forms. Length of presentation should be of five to ten minutes or equivalent in recorded form. 5 It is intended that the demonstration of the elements within this unit standard is displayed in an integrated manner. 6 Assessment of this unit must include both the process and the end product. However, it is expected that the choreographic work at this level will require the development of a dance with a minimum duration of three minutes. 9 Respect for ownership of original ideas and cultural sensitivity underpins the learning and teaching in this unit standard. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Apply knowledge of choreographic elements in a dance work. Evidence requirements 1.1 Dance work applies a range of space components. Range 1.2 Dance work applies time components. Range 1.3 may include but are not limited to - tempo, rhythm, accent, phrasing including musical phrasing. Dance work applies dance dynamics. Range 1.4 may include but are not limited to – inner space, personal space, general space, relationship of self to others and/or objects, levels, planes, directions, lines, points of focus, pathways. may include but are not limited to - intensities, qualities as required by choreographic intention; integrity of emotional content. Dance work applies integration of choreographic elements. Range space, time, dynamics, relationships. Outcome 2 Apply structure and devices in choreographic process. Evidence requirements 2.1 Dance making process applies a choreographic structure. Range may include but is not limited to - phrasing, musical structures, individual, pair, group. Range may include but are not limited to - motif, juxtaposition, repetition. Outcome 3 Discuss and evaluate choreographic work of others. Range viewing of dance performances, which may include but are not limited to - live performance, video, film of established choreographers, and in-class presentations. Evidence requirements 3.1 Personal observation and recording identifies and explains thematic ideas. 3.2 Personal observation and discussion evaluates the use of choreographic elements. 3.3 Personal observation and discussion evaluates the use of choreographic devices. 3.4 Personal observation and discussion evaluates the use and integration of elements, devices and structure towards realisation of the conceptual idea. 3.5 Two works are compared. Range may include but are not limited to - ideas, elements, devices, structure. Outcome 4 Conceptualise an idea. Evidence requirements 4.1 A range of creative ideas are explored and recorded in creative journal. Range 4.2 Two ideas are conceptualised. Evidence requirements 5.1 Dance movement is explored and developed through work shopping. Range 5.2 A work in progress displays knowledge of choreographic methods. Range 5.3 may involve - discussion, improvisation, definition, refinement, selection, observation, appreciation of different viewpoints, demonstration, interpretation, recognition and use of individual process and reflection. organising, phrasing, structuring and developing of material, which may include but is not limited to - motif, chance, accumulation, phrasing, retrograde, juxtaposition, theme and variation, stage conventions, improvisation. Recorded evidence demonstrates reflection on the success of methods and processes used, and the efforts made to refine the choreographic work. Outcome 6 Demonstrate people skills within choreographic process. Evidence requirements 6.1 Organisational skills are utilised for the benefit of the process. Range 6.2 scheduling, time management, physical and technical arrangements. Rehearsal protocols are used to enhance the process. Evidence requirements 7.1 Choreographic presentation is evidence that the idea has been developed and refined through an effective rehearsal process. 7.2 There is evidence that the performance communicates the physical and emotional presentation of an idea. 7.3 The work shows evidence of use of choreographic elements, structures, and devices relevant to the enhancement of the idea. 7.4 Personal review is recorded which displays critical evaluation of the presentation and how it was developed.
