Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Assist with handling cattle in yards.
Performance criteria
1.1
Cattle yard features are described in terms of the reasons why they contribute
to the safe handling of cattle.
Range
may include but is not limited to – level ground or slightly uphill,
orientation to sun, drained, clear of obstacles, entrance in relation
to fenceline, accessways between and around pens, loading ramp
sides boarded up, concreted race and forcing pen, access slots,
water trough, freely swinging gates, self closing gates, catwalks on
forcing pens, boarded out corners;
evidence required for at least four.
1.2
Cattle are moved into and out of yards, under supervision, without injury or
undue risk to cattle or handler(s) in accordance with on-farm procedures.
1.3
Cattle are moved through a race, under supervision, without injury or undue risk
to cattle or handler(s) in accordance with on-farm procedures.
1.4
Cattle are restrained, under supervision, without injury or undue risk to cattle or
handler(s) in accordance with on-farm procedures.
Range
1.5

Cattle are loaded and unloaded to and from a truck, under supervision, without
injury or undue risk to cattle or handler(s) in accordance with on-farm
procedures.
Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
