Explanatory notes 1 The following legislation and regulations must be complied with: Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; and Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995. 2 Assessment against this unit standard must take place in a workplace environment. Assessment parameters will depend on company and site specific equipment, procedures, and practices. Practices must reflect industry best practice and comply with legislative requirements. 3 Definitions Company requirements include the policy, procedures, and methodologies of the company. They include legislative and regulatory requirements applicable to the company or a specific site. Requirements are documented in the company’s health and safety plans, traffic management plans, contract work programmes, quality assurance programmes, policies, and procedural documents. Contract specifications include plans, diagrams, and special technical conditions. They do not include special administrative conditions. Job instructions are those given to the operator prior to undertaking a job. They may include site safety instructions, contract drawings, and written memos. Range 1.4 may include but is not limited to – drum, holders, tips, hydraulic drive, conveyor, hoses, control systems, water tanks. Field-servicing of road mill is carried out in accordance with company requirements. Range fuel, oil, water, grease, hydraulic oil, minor repairs. Outcome 2 Confirm job instructions for road milling. Evidence requirements 2.1 Type of surface to be milled is confirmed in accordance with job instructions. 2.2 Road mill sequences are described in accordance with contract specifications and company requirements. Outcome 3 Mill road. Evidence requirements 3.1 Surface is milled in accordance with contract specifications and company requirements. 3.2 Milling machine operation optimises performance of work process. Range 3.3 depth, line, conveyer control, communication. Milled material is removed in accordance with company requirements. Outcome 4 Shut down machine, park, and secure equipment.
