People credited with this unit standard are able to grade wet salted processed hides. Classification Fellmongery and Leather Processing > Leather Processing Skills Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Legislation relevant to this unit standard includes but is not limited to – Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991. 2 Definitions Company specifications – product specifications set by the company relating to materials, processes and practices. Hide damage – damage caused by the tanning process including handling practices and processes associated with fleshing, storage and preservation methods. Organisational requirements – instructions to staff on policies and procedures which are documented in memo, electronic or manual format and are available in the workplace. Processed hides – wet salted hides and skins processed in the leather processing industry. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Grade wet salted processed hides. Evidence requirements 1.1 Salted hides are graded to company specifications. 1.2 Hide damage is recorded in accordance with organisational requirements. 1.3 Records of graded hides are maintained in accordance with organisational requirements.
