On-farm quality management procedures are available from all dairy companies. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Demonstrate knowledge of procedures to avoid accidental contamination of milk, and the impact of dairy cattle ill health on milk quality. Performance criteria 1.1 Procedures to avoid accidental contamination of milk in the farm dairy are described in terms of the code of practice. Range 1.2 isolate animal, isolate milk. Ill health in animals is described in terms of the causes, and of the effect on milk quality. Range lameness, abscess, severe diarrhea, fever, mastitis. Element 2 Describe and maintain dairy cattle health recording systems, and calculate milk withholding period. Performance criteria 2.1 Animal health records are described in terms of their importance for maintaining milk quality, and maintained in accordance with on-farm quality management procedures and DPC 2. 2.2 Milk withholding period is described, and calculated to determine when milk from treated cows can be returned to the vat. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
