Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Describe the operational characteristics and performance of a longhole drill for an underground operation. Evidence requirements 1.1 The operational characteristics and performance of a longhole drill are described in terms of its operation in an underground operation. Range pneumatic drill, hydraulic drill, hydraulic drifter, self-propelled drills. Outcome 2 Describe safe work practices and conditions for operating a longhole drill in an underground operation. Evidence requirements 2.1 Safe work practices and conditions for a longhole drill’s operation are described in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures. Range 2.2 may include but is not limited to – site accessibility, ventilation, safety features, roadway and drill site conditions, roof and sides security, compressed air, water, electrical services, hydraulics, emergency stops, communications, pre-start check, alarms, drill rods, drill bits, sights (lasers and manual). Potential hazards are analysed in terms of longhole drilling in an underground operation. Range may include but is not limited to – ground stability, dust, hydrocarbons, water make, old workings, hydraulic pressures, jammed and/or broken rods, crush zones, geological structures, gas accumulations, pressurised gas, pressurised water. Outcome 3 Check readiness and operate a longhole drill in an underground operation. Evidence requirements 3.1 Checks on a longhole drill are completed in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures. Range 3.2 Identified defects are reported and managed in accordance with industry best practice and/or company procedures. 3.3 Longhole drilling equipment is selected and operated in accordance with the job requirements, manufacturer’s specifications, and company procedures. may include but is not limited to – drilling hoses, connectors, safety features, pipes, valves, drill bits, rods, drilling machine, drilling mud, pump, service water, tanks, gas monitoring and control, water pressure control, compliance with drill plan, water tanks, compressed air system, electrical supply and equipment. Range Outcome 4 Shut down a longhole drill and complete documentation in an underground operation. Evidence requirements 4.1 Longhole drill is shut down in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures. 4.2 Identified defects are reported and managed in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures. 4.3 Documentation is completed in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures.
