This unit standard is for people who need, or seek to conduct
or provide, advice for marketing activities on an international
basis, and require an understanding of the global business
environment as it relates to international marketing.
People credited with this unit standard are, for a New Zealand
product or service, able to: identify and assess political,
economic, sociocultural, and technological factors in markets
that impact on international marketing opportunities; identify
and assess geographic and demographic characteristics in
markets that impact on international marketing opportunities;
and assess the viability of international markets.

Economic cycles refer to the conditions of prosperity, recession and recovery.

People may be assessed against this unit standard through production of a case
study of international marketing opportunities for a New Zealand product or service.
The case study can be based on an existing or a potential product or service. Where
a potential example is used, a product or service concept must be used to support
the case study.

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Identify and assess political, economic, sociocultural, and technological factors in markets
that impact upon international marketing opportunities for a New Zealand product or
service.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Political factors are identified for markets and international marketing
opportunities are assessed against those factors.
Range
1.2
Economic factors are identified for markets and international marketing
opportunities are assessed in terms of economic conditions.

economic factors include but are not limited to – GDP per capita,
income distribution, rate of growth of GNP, ratio of investment to
GNP;
conditions include but are not limited to – economic cycles, foreign
exchange.
Sociocultural factors are identified for markets and international marketing
opportunities are assessed against those factors.

political factors include but are not limited to – political stability,
legal and regulatory requirements, corruption risks, trade structure.

values, lifestyle patterns, ethnic groups, linguistic fragmentation.
Technological factors are identified for markets, and international marketing
opportunities are assessed against those factors.
