People credited with this unit standard are, for a New Zealand product or service, able to: identify and assess political, economic, sociocultural, and technological factors in markets that impact on international marketing opportunities; identify and assess geographic and demographic characteristics in markets that impact on international marketing opportunities; and assess the viability of international markets. Classification Marketing > International Marketing Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definition Economic cycles refer to the conditions of prosperity, recession and recovery. 2 International trade agreements relevant to New Zealand include: ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand-Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Australia New Zealand Closer Economic Relations Trade Agreement (CER) Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (P4). 3 People may be assessed against this unit standard through production of a case study of international marketing opportunities for a New Zealand product or service. The case study can be based on an existing or a potential product or service. Where a potential example is used, a product or service concept must be used to support the case study. 4 Range Evidence is required for studies of two international markets. Evidence requirements 1.1 Political factors are identified for markets and international marketing opportunities are assessed against those factors. Range 1.2 Economic factors are identified for markets and international marketing opportunities are assessed in terms of economic conditions. Range 1.3 economic factors include but are not limited to – GDP per capita, income distribution, rate of growth of GNP, ratio of investment to GNP; conditions include but are not limited to – economic cycles, foreign exchange. Sociocultural factors are identified for markets and international marketing opportunities are assessed against those factors. Range 1.4 political factors include but are not limited to – political stability, legal and regulatory requirements, corruption risks, trade structure. sociocultural factors include but are not limited to – dominant values, lifestyle patterns, ethnic groups, linguistic fragmentation. Technological factors are identified for markets, and international marketing opportunities are assessed against those factors. Range technological factors include but are not limited to – level of technological skills, existing production technology, existing consumption technology, education levels. Outcome 2 Identify and assess geographic and demographic characteristics of markets that impact on international marketing opportunities for a New Zealand product or service. Evidence requirements 2.1 Geographic characteristics of markets are identified and international marketing opportunities are assessed against those characteristics. Range geographic characteristics include but are not limited to – physical size of country, topographical characteristics, climate conditions. Range Outcome 3 Assess the viability of international markets for a New Zealand product or service. Evidence requirements 3.1 International trade agreements relevant to New Zealand are assessed for their impact on a marketing decision. 3.2 International marketing potential of a New Zealand product or service is determined and marketing decisions are recommended.
