3 Definitions

Company procedures mean the documented methods for performing work activities and include health and safety, operational, environmental, and quality management requirements. They may refer to legislation, regulations, guidelines, standard operating procedures, manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements.

Industry best practice may be documented in management plans, control plans, company procedures, managers’ rules, occupational health and safety policy, industry guidelines, codes of practice, manufacturers’ instructions, and safe working and/or job procedures (or equivalent).

Evidence requirements

1.1 Maintenance requirements are determined for screens in accordance with manufacturer's instructions or onsite requirements related to the construction of the screen.

Outcome 2

Describe hazards associated with the maintenance of screens at an extractive site.

Range hazards may include but are not limited to – nip/pinch points, stored energy, fire, moving parts, falling objects, working at heights, poor housekeeping, unplanned movement, inappropriate use of equipment, confined spaces

(multideck screens).

Evidence requirements

2.1 Significant hazards associated with the maintenance of screens are described.

2.2

Methods of controlling hazards are described in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures.

Range includes but is not limited to – isolation and lock-out procedures, emergency stop.

Outcome 3

Carry out maintenance on screens at an extractive site.

Evidence requirements

3.1 Isolation and lock-out procedures are carried out in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures.

Range includes but is not limited to – energy source isolation, associated plant before and after screen.

The work area is prepared in readiness for maintenance work to be carried out.

Maintenance is carried out on screens in accordance with company procedures.

Range may include but is not limited to – lubrication points, changing screen media, dust covers, spray bars, hot work precautions, housekeeping, use of appropriate tools and equipment.

Tension screens at an extractive site.

Evidence requirements

4.1 Screen media are tensioned safely in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures.

Range may include but is not limited to – size of product, condition of product, wet or dry conditions, wear and tear, housekeeping, guarding.

4.2 The screen is given a test run to ensure the tension is correct in accordance with company procedures.

Outcome 5

Restore screens to operational status at an extractive site and complete documentation relevant to maintenance of screens.

Evidence requirements

5.1 Isolation and lock-out devices are removed and screens are restored to operational status in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures.

5.2 Documentation of maintenance of screens is completed in accordance with industry best practice and company procedures.
