People credited with this unit standard are able to, at an
extractive site: carry out pre-start checks for screens; operate
and monitor screens; describe hazards associated with the
operation of screens at an extractives site; and complete post
operation shutdown of screens.

Definitions
Company procedures mean the documented methods for performing work activities
and include health and safety, operational, environmental, and quality management
requirements. They may refer to legislation, regulations, guidelines, standard
operating procedures, manuals, codes of practice, or policy statements.
Industry best practice may be documented in management plans, control plans,
company procedures, managers’ rules, occupational health and safety policy,
industry guidelines, codes of practice, manufacturers’ instructions, and safe working
and/or job procedures (or equivalent).

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Carry out pre-start checks for screens at an extractive site.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Screen pre-start checks are carried out in accordance with industry best practice
and company procedures.
Range
checks may include but are not limited to – screen tension, screen
media condition, correct aperture for product, spray bars, electric
motors, drive equipment, lubrication, feeder system, dust covers and
extraction systems, product chutes (set correctly when using
multideck screens), safety features, emergency stop.
Outcome 2
Operate and monitor screens at an extractive site.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Screens are operated and monitored in accordance with industry best practice
and company procedures.
Range
may include but is not limited to – screen media condition, electric
motors, drive equipment, lubrication, feeder system, abnormal noise,
vibration and drive noise, dust control, spray bars.
Outcome 3
Describe hazards associated with the operation of screens at an extractive site.
Range
significant hazards must include but are not limited to – nip/pinch points, stored
energy, fire, moving parts, falling objects, working at heights, poor
housekeeping, noise and confined spaces.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Significant hazards associated with the operation of screens are described.
3.2
Methods of controlling hazards are described in accordance with industry best
practice and company procedures.
