Explanatory notes
1 The flight covered by this unit standard must be demonstrated in accordance with the
Civil Aviation Rules Part 91 and other relevant rules, published by the Civil Aviation
Authority of New Zealand (CAA), PO Box 31441, Lower Hutt 5040, and their subsequent amendments.
2 This unit standard is aligned with the relevant parts of the prescribed syllabi of the
CAA for an instrument rating. Credit will be awarded on meeting the requirements of the CAA-approved assessment or examination.

CAA Advisory Circulars, CAA Flight Test Standards Guides, operator exposition.
Outcome 1
Demonstrate knowledge of LLZ procedures.
Evidence requirements
1.1 Knowledge of LLZ procedures is demonstrated in accordance with industry texts and standards.
Outcome 2
Carry out an ILS approach by sole reference to instruments.
Evidence requirements
2.1 An ILS approach and missed-approach procedure is performed in accordance with industry texts and standards.
Range intercept and track LLZ, intercept and maintain glide slope, configure aircraft to achieve appropriate speed for final approach to enable landing.
Outcome 3
Demonstrate knowledge of privileges, procedures, and limitations, with respect to the use of ILS under IFR.
Evidence requirements
3.1 Knowledge of privileges and procedures is demonstrated with respect to the use of ILS under IFR in accordance with CAA Rules and Advisory Circulars.
Range includes but is not limited to – logbook signoff.
3.2 Knowledge of limitations is demonstrated with respect to the use of ILS in accordance with CAA Rules and Advisory Circulars.
